Internal medicine

Internal medicine is concerned with the diagnosis and overall management of the patient.

A significant part of the department's activity concerns the management of inflammatory, chronic, systemic and autoimmune diseases, infectious and tropical diseases, immunodeficiency, AIDS and hypertension.

General internal medicine is a specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, whether frequent or rare, whether the presentation is habitual or exceptional.

Our approach is initiated by a symptom, a sometimes trivial complaint that may be indicative of an internal illness whose diagnosis may be complex and delayed because of its rarity or unusual presentation.

Prolonged fatigue, unexplained temperature, inflammatory biology, anemia of unclear origin, recurrent infections, autoimmune diseases are examples of reasons leading the patient to consult an internist.

The internist takes a holistic view of the patient. This approach often requires numerous examinations to establish a diagnosis and accurately assess the patient's state of health before considering treatment. The internist may call on the services of other specialists (cardiologist, endocrinologist, infectious diseases specialist, neurologist, etc.), depending on the patient's ailments and their repercussions.
